Eel River Print for CalTrout by Paul Waters
Renowned local artist and angler Paul Waters has created this masterpiece of a fabled Northern California steelhead stream to represent the past, present, and future of California Trout.
The majestic Eel River cutting its way through the massive and ancient redwood trees of the North Coast. In the foreground, a pair of steelhead glide through the emerald waters and by a native Pacific Lamprey from which the river captured its name. The pram angler is a tribute to the culture of steelhead and salmon fishing that started on the Eel River by anglers like Bill Shaddt and Russ Chatham and later made famous by the film "Rivers of a Lost Coast". The triangular framing is a tribute to the local Wiyot Tribe and their continued stewardship of their ancestral lands. For CalTrout, restoring the Eel River from headwaters to the sea is of the highest priority and this print exemplifies the reason we do the work we do.
